Intef II, also known as Intef II, was a pharaoh of the XNUMXth Dynasty of Egypt who reigned around 2112 to 2063 BC. J.-C. Succeeding his brother Intef I, he continued efforts to reunify Egypt and consolidated the power of the XI Dynasty.
Further reunification
After Intef II's accession to the throne, he continued to expand the influence of the XI Dynasty through Egypt. His reign was marked by gradual territorial expansion and the consolidation of pharaonic power, including subjugating the Tenth Dynasty princes of Herakleopolis.
International relationships
Intef II also strengthened trade ties with neighboring regions, especially with Nubia and the kingdoms of the Near East. These relations contributed to Egypt's prosperity and the expansion of its cultural and political influence abroad.
Buildings and monuments
Like his predecessor, Intef II undertook various construction projects to establish his rule and leave a lasting legacy. He built a funerary temple at El-Tarif, near Thebes, as well as a pyramid at Kûla, now in ruins. These monuments bear witness to the greatness of Egypt and the importance of funeral rites for the pharaoh.
Governance and administration
Intef II's reign was marked by efficient administration and stable governance, with particular attention paid to justice and order. He appointed competent governors and officials to oversee the Egyptian provinces, ensuring efficient management of resources and local affairs.
Succession
At the end of his reign, Intef II was succeeded by his son Mentuhotep II, which eventually achieved the complete reunification of Egypt and ushered in the Middle Kingdom.
