Egypt's First Dynasty marks the beginning of Egypt's pharaonic history and is part of the Old Kingdom period, which spans from 3100 to 2686 BC. This first dynasty was founded by King Narmer (also known as Menes), who successfully united Upper and Lower Egypt into one kingdom. The First Dynasty lasted until about 2925 BC. J.-C.
The rulers of the First Dynasty were known to have built intricate and elaborate tombs, which testify to their power and wealth. Their graves were located at Abydos, an important archaeological site in Egypt, where we also find the tomb of the king Narmer. Rulers of this period also built mastabas, earth-brick burial structures, for themselves and their relatives.
First dynasty pharaohs include Narmer, Djer, The, Adjib, Semerkhet et Qa. During this period, hieroglyphic writing was developed and the first forms of administration and bureaucracy were established. The first dynasty laid the foundations of ancient Egyptian civilization and allowed subsequent dynasties to flourish and develop.
