Khaba is a pharaoh who is said to have reigned during the Third Dynasty of Ancient Egypt, around 2670 BC. Information on Khaba is scarce and often uncertain, which makes it difficult to draw a complete portrait of this ruler.
The reign of Khaba
Khaba's reign is shrouded in uncertainty, and estimates vary as to its duration. Some Egyptologists believe he ruled for around six years, while others suggest a shorter or longer period. The evidence regarding Khaba is limited and does not allow definitive conclusions to be drawn about the nature of his rule.
Archaeological discoveries
- The Pyramid of Khaba
The main find associated with Khaba is his pyramid, known as the “Step Pyramid of Zawiyet el-Aryan”. This unfinished structure is located about 8 kilometers north of the step pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara. Although the pyramid of Khaba is not as well preserved as that of Djoser, it offers insight into the architectural practices of the time.
- Inscriptions and artifacts
Artifacts bearing Khaba's name have been found in several places in Egypt, including stone vessels and clay seals. However, these finds are rare and do not allow firm conclusions to be drawn about Khaba's life or accomplishments.
Archaeologists and research
Several archaeologists have worked at the Khaba pyramid site, including Ludwig Borchardt, who conducted excavations in the 1900s. More recently, Egyptian and international teams have continued to study the pyramid and its surroundings, but research has been hampered by problems of access and conservation of the site.
