Ptolemy VII Neos Philopator was a pharaoh of the Ptolemaic dynasty who ruled Egypt from 145 BC. AD to 144 BC. He was the son of Ptolemy VI and his sister-wife Cleopatra II, and succeeded his father at the age of 18.
The reign of Ptolemy VII was short-lived and left no significant achievements. He was overthrown by his uncle, Ptolemy VIII, only a year after taking the throne.
He is best known for his tumultuous relationship with his mother Cleopatra II, who sought to seize power in Egypt after the death of her husband Ptolemy VI. The conflict between mother and son was so intense that they ended up fighting each other and Ptolemy VII was forced to flee to Syria.
After his overthrow, Ptolemy VII tried to reclaim the throne by allying himself with the king of Syria, but he was eventually captured and executed by order of his uncle.
