Qa, also known as Qa'a, was a First Dynasty Egyptian pharaoh.
Qa's reign lasted approximately 33 years, making him one of the longest-ruling pharaohs of the First Dynasty. He succeeded to Semerkhet and was succeeded by King Hotepsekhemwy, marking the start of the XNUMXnd Dynasty.
Political and military activities
Qa seems to have been a politically and militarily active ruler. Objects and inscriptions discovered in various Egyptian archaeological sites suggest that he led military expeditions, probably to expand and consolidate Egyptian control over neighboring territories.
Archaeological discoveries
The Tomb of Qa
The Tomb of Qa, located in Abydos, is known as Tomb Q. It was excavated by British Egyptologist Flinders Petrie. The tomb is larger than those of its predecessors, perhaps reflecting its longevity and importance. Despite ancient looting, grave goods, such as pottery, jewelry, and tools, have been discovered inside.
Inscriptions and objects
Inscriptions and objects bearing Qa's name have been found in various archaeological sites, offering insight into his reign and activities. Ivory seals bearing his name have been discovered, as well as inscriptions referring to specific events and offerings to the gods.
Archaeologists and research
Flinders Petrie played a central role in the study of the tomb of Qa and in the analysis of the associated objects and inscriptions. Other Egyptologists and archaeologists have also contributed to the study of his reign, examining artifacts and archaeological sites related to this period.
