Sekhemrê-Ouahkhâou Râhotep was a pharaoh of the XVIth Theban dynasty, his reign is dated around 1580 BC. Due to the troubled period during which he reigned, the Second Intermediate Period, the information available on Rahotep is limited and fragmentary.
Scattered Traces of an Ancient Reign
The main proof of the existence of Sekhemrê-Ouahkhâou Râhotep is a stele found at Coptos (now Qift), in southern Egypt. This stele, now kept at the Louvre Museum in Paris, represents the king and his wife, whose name is unfortunately not preserved. Although the stele is damaged, it gives valuable information about Rahotep's reign.
A Pharaoh and his Queen
Rahotep's stele, although incomplete, gives us an image of this pharaoh and his queen. The royal couple are shown making offerings to Min, the god of fertility and protector of roads and caravans, who was particularly revered at Coptos. This suggests that Rahotep maintained religious traditions and paid homage to local gods.
