Montou the Egyptian god of war, his capital is named Hermonthis, his emblems are the falcon and the solar disk. Nicknamed the "lord of Thebes", Montou, has the mission of protecting the armed forces and ensuring military victories.
He is sometimes called “Montou-Rê” because Montou does not lead battles, he makes war when Egypt is in danger. For example if the goddess of order and justice in the universe, Maat, is attacked then Montou will win wars and will defend the goddess at all costs because He is the armed arm of Ra. He will protect the kingdom of the sun god in all circumstances so that Egypt remains intact.
Perceived as a warlike god who would not hesitate to wage untimely wars in response to the slightest threat, he is, as such, often used to protect cities. The famous city of Thebes, for example, is under the protection of Montu.
Montu was loved by the Pharaohs, he is even the titular god of the Egyptian XI Dynasty. Some Pharaohs had a birth name in reference to the god Montou. Like Mentuotepe which means “Montu is satisfied”.
But its influence declines with the period of the New Kingdom which will gradually attribute its characteristics to the god Amon.
