Amenemhat II, son of Sesostris I, inherited a stable and prosperous kingdom. He continued his father's policies and maintained stability both within the kingdom and in its relations with neighboring countries. The reign of Amenemhat II is often considered a period of relative peace, without major conflicts or wars.
It seems that during the reign of Amenemhat II, Egypt continued to develop its commercial relations with its neighbors. Objects imported from Syria-Palestine, Nubia and Sinai have been found in several sites from this period, testifying to a flourishing commercial activity.
Construction activities
Like many other pharaohs, Amenemhat II also left his mark through his construction activities. However, unfortunately, most of its monuments have been destroyed or seriously damaged by time and human activities.
Among the monuments attributed to him is a chapel at Karnak, but it was almost completely destroyed. He also built a burial complex at Dahshur, but it was heavily damaged and little remains of its original structure.
End of the Reign and Succession
Amenemhat II ruled for over three decades. When he died, he was buried in his pyramid at Dahshur. His reign was followed by that of his son, Sesostris II, who continued to rule Egypt in the same spirit of stability and prosperity.
Overall, although not as famous as some other pharaohs of the Twelfth Dynasty, Amenemhat II played an important role in the history of ancient Egypt, maintaining the stability and prosperity of the kingdom in a time when he could have been easily destabilized.
