Sanakht is an enigmatic pharaoh of the Third Dynasty of Ancient Egypt, who reigned around 2650 BC. J.-C. Although precise information on this sovereign is rare.
The reign of Sanakht
Little is known about Sanakht's reign due to lack of archaeological and textual evidence. It is possible that his reign was relatively short, as he does not appear on later royal lists, such as the Palermo Stone or the Turin Papyrus. However, some contemporary inscriptions, such as seals and tombstone inscriptions, mention his name, indicating that he was a recognized king at the time.
Archaeological discoveries
Sanakht's Tomb, known as Tomb K2, was discovered at Beit Khallaf, an archaeological site north of the Egyptian city ofAbydos. This tomb is one of the largest of the Third Dynasty and is built of mud bricks. Archaeologists have discovered fragments of vases and seals bearing the name of Sanakht, allowing it to be attributed to this pharaoh.
The mystery surrounding Sanakht
Why Sanakht is so little known in Egyptian history remains a mystery. Several theories have been proposed, including that his reign was eclipsed by that of Djoser, a much more famous pharaoh of the same dynasty. It is also possible that some archaeological finds related to Sanakht are still buried under the sands of Egypt, waiting to be revealed.
