Amyrtaeus, also known as Amenirdis, was the only pharaoh of the XXVIIIe egyptian dynasty, reigning from 404 to 398 BC. He is best known for resisting Persian occupation in Egypt and for briefly restoring Egyptian independence.
Resistance and reconquest
Before becoming pharaoh, Amyrtaeus was an Egyptian nobleman who rebelled against Persian occupation. He led a successful revolt against the Persians, managing to regain control of Egypt and establish the XXVIIIe dynasty. This resistance made Amyrtae a symbol of Egyptian independence and the struggle against foreign oppression.
Rule and domestic politics
Once in power, Amyrtée strove to strengthen the Egyptian economy and culture. He supported the arts and temples, seeking to restore Egyptian identity and national pride. Amyrteus also worked to consolidate her power, allying herself with other nations to protect against foreign threats, notably the Persians.
End of reign and legacy
Unfortunately, Amyrtée's reign was short-lived. In 398 BC. BC, he was overthrown by Nepherites I, founder of the XXIXth dynasty. Nonetheless, Amyrtaea's legacy as a resister to Persian occupation and a restorer of Egyptian independence remained significant.
