The reign of Neferirkare
Neferirkare is the third king of the fifth dynasty, succeeding Sahoure. He is probably the son of Sahourê and Queen Meretnebty. He married Queen Khentkaous II, with whom he had at least two children, including future pharaohs Neferefre and Nyuserre.
Architectural constructions
Neferirkare's burial complex, located at Abusir, is one of the most important sites of the Fifth Dynasty. Its pyramid, although partially completed, testifies to the evolution of pyramidal architecture at that time. The complex also includes a funerary temple and a solar temple.
The solar temple of Neferirkare, called “Satisfying the Souls of Ra”, highlights the importance given to solar worship during his reign. This solar temple has architectural elements similar to those of the solar temple of Sahourê, such as colonnades and statues.
Economic and cultural activities
Neferirkare's reign was marked by trading activities and expeditions to neighboring regions, such as Sinai and the land of Punt. These expeditions were aimed at obtaining valuable resources and strengthening international relations.
The Egyptian administration also saw developments during the reign of Neferirkare, with the appearance of new administrative burdens and the construction of new facilities for civil servants.
Neferirkare was an important pharaoh of the Fifth Dynasty of Egypt, contributing to the development of sun worship and the economic prosperity of Egypt. His funerary complex at Abusir testifies to the evolution of pyramidal architecture and offers an overview of the achievements of this pharaoh.
